Swedish doubling initiative attracts attention at World Congress
From 10 to 14 April 2011, the international public transport organisation UITP will be holding a world congress and sector fair in Dubai. The theme of the congress is PTx2 (public transport times two), or in other words a doubling of public transport. Sweden’s Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Catharina Elmsäter-Svärd (Moderate Party) and Managing Director of the Swedish Public Transport Association Charlotte Wäreborn Schultz will participate in a session that will focus, among other aspects, on the Swedish public transport doubling initiative. In this context, Sweden will be presented as one of four international examples together with Italy, Canada and New Zealand. The Swedish Doubling Project and regional best practices will also be presented on an individual stand (Stand 2C 410) at the public transport fair.
Among 155 entries submitted from 43 different countries, Sweden has also reached the final with its two projects entitled the “Contract Process” and the “Knowledge Lift” in UITP’s first “PTx2 Award”. The Contract Process is a finalist in the category “Public Transport Advocacy Award” and the Knowledge Lift in the category ”Knowledge and Research Award”.
The Contract Process is a procurement tool that incorporates various model contracts.
The Knowledge Lift is a sub-project, the purpose of which is to support the sector in the transformation from a production culture to a service culture.
