International prize for successful work on the Swedish Doubling Project

Swedish Public Transport Association awarded international prize for successful work on the Swedish Doubling Project at the UITP 59th World Congress in Dubai

For the first time ever, the UITP – the world organisation for public transport – awarded prizes for projects which, in an outstanding way, contributed to the global objective of a doubling of the market share held by public transport.

The Swedish Public Transport Association received a “Special Award” for its leadership in the launching and implementation of the Swedish Doubling Project, which aims at fulfilling the sector’s common goal of doubling the share of the market held by public transport.

“The way in which we work nationally, in co-operation with the entire sector, has attracted a lot of attention here in Dubai. The prize confirms that the work we are doing is successful,” says Charlotte Wäreborn Schultz, Managing Director of the Swedish Public Transport Association and Chairman of the Partnership for a Doubling of Public Transport.

Sweden, which was the first country in the world to set a national doubling target, is one of the countries that has played a central role during the UITP World Congress. The Minister of Industry, Communication and Employment, Catharina Elmsäter-Svärd, spoke at two seminars and met visitors to the Swedish stand.

“I am extremely glad that the Swedish Doubling Project has set an international example and that we are a source of  inspiration to other countries all over the world,” says Catharina Elmsäter-Svärd.
